Why are they called inkjet printers?

What is coated or photo paper?
More expensive paper for inkjet printers is treated with chemicals to improve the way ink is absorbed. WIth coated and photo paper your inkjet printer can print much higher resolutions and the colors are better as well. If you plan to print photos at home you'll need some photo paper. Should I buy the cheapest inkjet possible?
If you don't plan on printing huge amount then a cheap and compact inkjet printer is by far your best printer choice.
Is printing photos at home cheaper?
The main costs advantage of printing photos at home is that you can pick and choose and only print the photos you really want. However if you're the type of person that wants most of their shots printed then you'll probably be better off getting them printed at a photo lab.
Should I buy a laser printer instead?
Well inkjet printers are much cheaper to buy than a color laser printer but they cost about 10 times as much to run. If you plan on printing photos get an inkjet, if you plan on printing large volumes get a color laser.
